What are the prospects of high-quality mathematical education?

When recruiting new employees, the employer evaluates their qualifications, experience, and results of tests. Now, in the Internet era, not only job applicants from well-known metropolitan universities are in demand on the labor market, but specialists from anywhere in the world can have a chance to find employment with top global companies. What employers look for is your knowledge and skills. BSU graduates are excellent proof of this: after leaving their alma mater, they often find work in world-class companies.

The best in the Republic and in the region

The Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science (IMI) of Buryat State University is rightfully considered one of the leading centers of mathematical and IT education in the Far Eastern Federal District.

For example, last academic year our students once again demonstrated their bright achievements. Here are some of our achievements:

- diploma of the II degree at the semi-finals of the ACM ICPC World Sports Programming championship (which gives a chance of employment in top international and domestic companies);

- 1st team place at Interuniversity Olympiad in Mathematics and Programming;

- top awards in several categories at the Third Far Eastern Cup of Intellectual Games.

From Moscow to South Korea

If we talk about employment of the IMI graduate, we also have something to be proud with. Our graduate Maxim Skvortsov was invited to work for the international company Wargaming (Minsk, Belarus), the company that created the famous "World of Tanks" game and is considered the world leader in computer gaming industry.

Many of our graduates also work in leading companies in Russia and the world. Nikita Ovechkin is a design engineer at the Russian-Swedish group of software companies "Sidenis "(Kaliningrad), Alexey Rygzinov is a developer in a major IT-company in South Korea, Oleg Morzhin defended a thesis for the degree of Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and works as a developer in the international company "Huawei" (Moscow). Andrey Aslamov and Igor Kolobov work in the largest IT-holding company in Russia "Mail.ru Group" (Moscow, St. Petersburg).

Vyacheslav Cho-Din-Cho graduated from BSU in 2009 and now works for the "Wargaming" company as a motion designer. He managed to get a job of his dream thanks to his victory in the all-Russian competition of break bumpers for programs "KTTS" and "WBR " on Wargaming TV. We talked with Vyacheslav about the role that the University played in his life.

- I spent most of my time at University, as since I was in my second year I worked in the Center of Information Technologies at BSU. My work was connected with photo and video content, it motivated me, and influenced the choice of my future major. Then at the Department of Computer Science I chose to write a graduation thesis on a topic closely related to my interests in the field of computer graphics. Thus, this work helped me to understand many aspects of my current occupation, he says.

Working at the international company Vyacheslav enjoys what he is doing.

- In my work everything is great - from performing challenging and interesting tasks to attending conferences and sharing experiences with professionals. I would advise applicants to choose a profession following their interests, rather than aspects of prestige or parental will. I am sure that the main thing is to find yourself, - he says.

At the regional level, BSU closely cooperates with large companies of Buryatia: GC "STACK", TG "Absolute", "Snezhny Bars", Information technology and resources department of Ulan-Ude’s City Administration, etc. Most members of their IT departments are graduates of BSU Mathematics and Informatics Institute.

If you like sciences and have far-reaching ambitions, the Mathematics and Informatics Institute and the Faculty Physics and Technology are just a choice for you.
