BSU hosted Geography Quiz International Educational Campaign

Every year Dorji Banzarov Buryat State University becomes the main platform in the Republic of Buryatia for the Geography Quiz International Educational Campaign. The Geography and Geoecology Department at the Faculty of Biology, Geography and Land Use traditionally co-organizes this event. This year, on October 27, 190 people took part in the Geography Quiz-2019 held at BSU.

Opening the event, Chair of Geography and Geoecology Department at BSU, Doctor of Geography, Professor B.O. Gomboev, Academic Director of the Baikal Nature Management Institute, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Geography, Professor A.K. Tulokhonov, Dean of Faculty of Biology, Geography and Land Use, Cand. Sc., Assoc. Professor E. M. Pyzhikova and some other scientists and members of the faculty gave their welcoming speeches.

The quiz included varying complexity tasks that were designed to check knowledge of some geographical concepts and terms, basic laws, location of geographical objects on the map, and the ability to apply knowledge in practice.

Each participant, regardless of their age, education and status, will receive independent assessment of their knowledge. Before the start of the quiz, each participant was assigned an individual identification number, that they put on their answer sheets. The participants will be able to check their results on the official website of the Geography Quiz using this number.

The Geography Quiz has been held annually since 2015 upon an initiative of Vladimir Putin, Chairman of the Russian Geographical Society's Board Of Trustees, President of the Russian Federation. The main goal of this event is to promote geographical knowledge and increase the nation's interest in Russian geography. This year the quiz was held in 100 countries. Traditionally, the quiz took place not only at specially organized venues, but also online at dictant.rgo.ruon, which is the project's website.
