BSU Days in Tunka District: Science, Olympiads, and New Horizons!

On May 5–6, 2025, Dorji Banzarov Buryat State University (BSU) held large-scale events in Tunka District. Meetings, negotiations, olympiads, seminars, and even an exciting astronomy session—all became part of a grand journey toward advancing science, education, and the future of the district!

BSU is firmly committed to supporting educational institutions in Tunka and Oka Districts, developing scientific research, and training highly qualified professionals together with the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ISZF SB RAS) and the Tunka District Administration. The university delegation was led by Rector Aldar Valeryevich Damdinov, who emphasized the significance of this collaboration.

May 5: Science – The Engine of Progress!
A historic meeting with ISZF SB RAS took place, where a cooperation agreement was signed, opening new horizons for Tunka Valley! Participants included:

  • Aldar Valeryevich Damdinov – Rector of BSU;

  • Andrey Vsevolodovich Medvedev – Director of ISZF SB RAS;

  • Alexander Andreyevich Pakhakhinov – Deputy Head of Tunka District;

  • Stepan Vladimirovich Kalmykov – Scientific Supervisor of the Buryat Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Education;

  • Viktoria Vladimirovna Nomogoeva – Vice-Rector for Research at BSU;

  • Aziya Antonovna Mayorova – Head of the Education Department of Tunka District Administration;

  • Leadership of ISZF SB RAS, directors and staff of BSU’s Institute of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science, and Institute of Continuing Education.

BSU is ready to dedicate all efforts to make Tunka Valley a national center of science and scientific tourism!

May 6: Knowledge, Inspiration, and Victories!

  • 10:00–11:00: Meeting with high school students: How to enroll at BSU and build a future on home soil? Speakers included:

    • Stepan Vladimirovich Kalmykov, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor;

    • Marina Gennadyevna Tsyrenova, Director of BSU’s Institute of Continuing Education;

    • Larisa Vasilyevna Antonova, Director of BSU’s Institute of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science;

    • Tatyana Evgenyevna Syrenova, Researcher at ISZF SB RAS.

  • 11:00–13:00: Tunka Peaks Olympiad (physics + mathematics) in honor of the 90th anniversary of Gennady Chingisovich Budaev (1935–2023), legendary teacher of mathematics and physics, Honored Educator of the Republic of Buryatia, and Excellence in Public Education of the RSFSR. Organized by his daughter, Marina Gennadyevna Tsyrenova, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, and Director of BSU’s Institute of Continuing Education. Jury chairs:

    • Andrey Konstantinovich Mordovskoy, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences;

    • Timur Andreyevich Chimytov, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.

  • 11:00–13:00: Methodological seminar for mathematics teachers led by Larisa Vasilyevna Antonova, Director of BSU’s Physics and Mathematics Institute and renowned mathematician.

  • 11:00–13:00: Astronomy Hour – an engaging lecture for students and teachers by Liliya Vasilyevna Mironova, Head of BSU’s Observatory.

  • 11:00–13:00: Roundtable for school principals of Tunka and Oka Districts: Systemic Approach to Managing a Modern School, moderated by Marina Gennadyevna Tsyrenova. Principals from nearly all valley schools attended, with Stepan Vladimirovich Kalmykov sharing his experience and vision.

  • 14:00–16:00: EGE (Unified State Exam) preparation in physics and mathematics by exam committee experts:

    • Andrey Konstantinovich Mordovskoy;

    • Alexey Alekseevich Mashanov;

    • Migmar Vladimirovich Darmaev.

  • 16:00–17:00: Closing ceremony of BSU Days in Tunka District, awarding teachers and olympiad winners.

  • 1st Place: Nikita Bobkov (Grade 11, Arshan Secondary School), Timur Badmaev (Grade 11, Arshan Secondary School)

  • 2nd Place: Bulat Taryashinov (Grade 11, Kyren Secondary School), Rinchina Dambaeva (Grade 11, Orlik Secondary School)

  • 3rd Place: Ayana Ignashkeeva (Grade 11, Torsk Secondary School), Darina Damshaeva (Grade 11, Orlik Secondary School)

Consolation Prizes:

  • Boris Udaev (Grade 10, Kyren Secondary School)

  • Elena Putunkeeva (Grade 10, Sorok Boarding School)

Winners received cash prizes and diplomas from Marina Gennadyevna and Gennady Chingisovich’s family. We wish all participants future successes that bring glory to Tunka and Oka schools!

The Tunka Peaks Olympiad will become an annual tradition, inspiring students to explore physics and mathematics! Tasks will be tied to local heritage to make science relatable and exciting!
